The runners of the extension leaves need cleaning regularly to remove accumulated grime. Open the table and use a normal hose with the nozzle on high pressure to clean table frame and rails on the extension leaves. Use a brush to remove difficult built up grime. Following cleaning and extended periods of rain, the timber may swell and it could be difficult to move the extension leaves. This is normal and upon drying they will move freely again.
Regardless of whether you use the table extended or unextended most of the time, it is important to operate the extension mechanism regularly to ensure that none of the moving parts seize up. Get in the habit of opening and closing your extension table every few weeks to be sure that everything is moving freely.
Leave extension tables fully extended as much as possible during the first twelve months of exposure to ensure even weathering of all surfaces.
The hinges on the two “butterfly” extension leaves should be lubricated with a couple of drops of household oil three or four times a year.
