The Jati Story

The Beginning

Jati began in 1984 in the garage of a home in Canterbury as the "spare time" venture of a school teacher. The business, selling teak outdoor furniture, developed experientially over the next few years and soon moved to a small storage space in the back streets of Richmond. From there it grew steadily until in 1994 it became a full time job selling direct to the public from a warehouse in Stephenson Street, Richmond. In 1995 a new showroom was opened in Sydney, then a second small showroom on Swan Street in Melbourne and a showroom in Brisbane in 1996.

In 2001 Jati moved its two Melbourne premises into one much larger showroom at 442 Swan Street Richmond and an Indoor Furniture range was introduced. Jati Brisbane and Sydney were both closed during 2006 due to changes in the Directorship of the business. In 2007 Jati was forced to move from 442 Swan Street due to the sale and subsequent demolition of the building.

Jati has over 20 years hard won experience selling teak outdoor furniture. We have a fabulous collection ranging from English heritage style garden benches, chairs and tables, to the latest contemporary designs including borderless tables and flat topped backless benches.

In 2000 Jati began selling Outdoor Wicker. The colours and styles of Outdoor Wicker are prone to fashion changes and technological improvements. We continually endeavour to source and sell the best quality available, maintaining comfort and aesthetic appeal while keeping up with the latest trends.

Jati now, owned by that same 'school teacher', operates from its exclusive showroom at 309 Swan Street, Richmond. We sell Australia wide through our comprehensive website and email order service.
